About Tudorks

the house (before)
Tudorks is a domestic, design, and home renovation blog about being resourceful. We are restoring a home from the Depression during the Recession. We are all about working with what you have and the house you have. Don’t fight the house! Be happy with your nest. No shoving a Victorian inside a Brady Bunch home and no shoving a McMansion in a 20′s bungalow. Work with what you have. Our goal is to share what we’ve learned during the renovation, what “works”, and some design inspirations to keep us motivated.
We have done most of this by ourselves while working full-time. Things we’ve paid others to do: electrical, plumbing, and exterior painting. You know the stuff that takes real skills, or can get you killed.
Who is Tudorks?
We’re a married coupleĀ living in Western Washington. We moved from Nashville, Tennessee 2.5 years ago, we were ready for a change. So we packed up the records and hopped in the covered wagons and went West. We’ve been married for 6.5 years. We’re high school sweethearts who have been together since we were 15 and 16. (Insert awws here). We are loving life in the Pacific Northwest taking care of our frug (half French bulldog/half pug), Frink.

Wow! You’re work is great, your taste impeccable and the best part is that you really GET the whole concept of a house having integrity. I want to scream every time I watch HGTV and an original, functioning, vintage kitchen or bath gets demolished for sheet rock and the inescapable granite countertops! Good for you for understanding that an old house doesn’t need to be anything other than what it is. My husband and I are buying a shotgun or Creole Cottage in New Orleans in the next few months and I will be referring to your blog often! Thanks so much!
Your comment makes us so happy! It is so nice to know that other people out there are willing to “work” with an old house instead of trying to turn it into a “flipper” HGTV home. Give me pink bathroom fixtures, cracked lath & plaster, and leaded glass. This is my “dream” home: slightly blemished with lots of love and character.
Good luck with your future purchase. It’s great to have support throughout these projects. The thing about renovation is that there aren’t many resources out there since the answer to everything from so many people is to rip it out and replace it with some generic contractor quality item. We are learning as we go and it will be great to here about other’s experiences.
I love New Orleans and try to talk hubby into moving there all of the time. So many homes with character…
